I've managed to identify four of the photos as members
of the Henry and Sarah CASE family whom I found in the 1880 US census
living in Auburn New York but why there should be photos of that family
in Christchurch I haven't yet fathomed.
After a lengthy trek through the 1880 USA Census seeking folk with the first name Wheeler I was highly successful. I can also tell you that the photo of the military man was taken in the same studio as these ones so is quite likely to be the same family, probably Henry Jacob CASE. I've added the census entry |

and now believe the full names of the family to be:
