| Clareville Cemetery. Carterton.
Records are held by me, as I am researching the Cemetery from 1866. I have
over 300 possibly unmarked graves, just with surnames on the plans.. I hold
monumental inscriptions for those marked. Also researching Early Settlers
to Carterton.. We hold plans of the cemetery in our museum in Carterton,
but listings are in my possession at home until I can complete the listings!' Also researching Soldiers graves at Featherston. WW1. These soldiers are from NZ wide over 180 I have photographs of their headstones, plus the original ones found dumped in the trees...but hopefully they will be restored and placed in a Memorial Garden.. its being worked on with South Wairarapa Council (hopefully!) Reason being CWGC replaced them with their regimental design in 1971 and could not trace descendants, funny that, I have traced quite a few! Featherston was a Military Camp and Military Hospital during WW1. Many soldiers died of influenza in 1918, fought overseas, returned to camp..and died..tragic. Am willing to check graves throughout Wairarapa for interested parties.. Adele |
