STEVEN-Golden Weddings do not happen every day, yesterday, the 6th, however was the fiftieth anniversary of two of our oldest and much respected settlers, viz, Mr and Mrs J Steven, who, since they came to the colony in 1855 have done something in the way of increasing and multiplying etc, having twenty four grand and two great grandchildren. Never has Mr Steven been an unprofitable member of society, for mainly to his exertions on behalf of the public well may be traced the erection of the Petane and Kaikora schoolhouses which have for many years not only been used for the benefit of the rising generation, but also for the administration of the gospel by different denominations.
The Presbyterian Church in Kaikora will long be a standing memorial to the zeal and energy of his character. He has served well his day and generation and although the day was not marked by festivities, all who know him and his partner will wish their declining years in peace. I am etc, Multium in Pa! rro.
