Everything that loving care and best medical aid could do, was done but without avail. She bore her sufferings with Christian patience and fortitude. Her gentle, kindly nature endeared her to all who knew her. She was a kind and affectionate mother and a person of many friends. She leaves to morn her death, two sons, Eugene and Ernest, both of Gouverneur; two sisters, Mrs. William Chapin of Fullerville and Mrs. Oliver Robinson of Gouverneur; also three granddaughters, Mrs. Vernon Creighton of Talcville and the Misses Julia and Gladys Ladd of Gouverneur. A prayer was offered by Reverend Bartlett of Edwards and funeral services were held at the Baptist Church at Hermon, officiated by Reverend Smith. Interment was in Hermon Cemetery. Her face may be wrinkled and faded, Her cheeks may be sunken and wan; Her eyes be as dim as the gloaming, That once were as bright as the dawn, But smooth ye the locks that are faded, And tenderness never refuse, You never can pay back her kindness, You have but one mother to lose." His first wife was Emma Wood and two daughters were born to them, Mrs. Charles Hyde of Macomb and Mrs. Judson Leonard of Hermon. Her death occurred in 1893. Later he was united in marriage to Ida Patton of Natural Bridge, who survives. He leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, Mrs. Charles Hyde of Macomb, Mrs. Judson Leonard of Hermon and also his widow, Ida Peterson, and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Robinson of Gouverneur, Mrs. Carrie Ladd of Hermon and Mrs. Emma Chapin of Edwards. He also leaves six grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. F. J. Brown of Hermon from his late home a 11 o'clock Tuesday forenoon, April 10, and from the Kenta Corners Church an hour later and burial was made in Richville Cemetery. We may tarry a while here as strangers, Unnoticed by those who pass by; But the Saviour will crown us in Glory, To shine as the stars of the sky. In memory of his favorite hymn."
