He married Mary Hyatt in 1802 or earlier.(1) Mary was born about 1784 (estimated). She died probably after 1839.
He sold property to John Smith on 6 February 1837 in Sharon, Schoharie County, New York.(2) On 6 February 1837, James Smith and Mary his wife of Sharon, also William Smith and Elisa his wife of Decatur, sold to John Smith of Sharon, for seven hundred dollars, "the Land and tenements owned and occupied by Robert Smith(3) of the town of Sharon in the county of Schoharie aforesaid."
He sold property to John Smith on 4 February 1839 in Sharon, Schoharie County, New York.(4) On 4 February 1839, James Smith and Mary his wife of Sharon sold to John Smith of Sharon, for five hundred dollars, "all the land and tenements formerly belonging to the late Robert Smith of Sharon, deceased, or of which the said Robert owned or claimed at the time of his death lying situated or being in the town of Sharon aforesaid." No birth, marriage, or death records have been found for James or Mary. The names of their parents and siblings are not known, but if they are the James and Mary Smith who sold land in Sharon, they were both still living in 1839. The land records include names of persons who may be members of our Smith family.
