65124. Åmund* ARNBJØRNSSON
Ile(765)
(892)(909)
(908)(767) was born about 1450
in Norway. He died after 1523 in Ile gård #31, Vikedal, Rogaland, Norway.
Åmund Ile is named in documents from 1519 and 1523. In 1519, he paid a
tax of 16 marks silver. It increased to 211/2 marks 6 shillings in 1521, indicating
he was an extremely wealthy landowner owning between 15 and 20 laupar smør.
He owned half of Stillufseike. At that time Ile and Stillufseike were two of
the largest and best farms in the skiprede. However, little is known for certain
about his ancestry. It is very possible that he was descended from a branch
of the powerful noble family of Byre since his son was involved in a lawsuit
with members of the Byre family over the title to some property. In addition,
the names "Åmund" and "Arnbjørn" are found in both
the Ile and Byre families. Einar Balle believes that Åmund might have been
the son of Arnbjørn Eivindsson and therefore a member of the Koll family.
It is also possible that he was a close relative of Jon på Stillufseike,
possibly a brother.
Eivind Arnbjørnsson (1467), Tjerand (Mjølhus) and Amund Ile must have
all been born around 1450 and, for that matter, could easily have been brothers.
For Eivind we have also found a father and a paternal grandfather, Eivind Arnbjørnsson.
There is a Tjerand Arnbjørnsson (named 1349) who fits well as a relative
of these three men. He was married to ?, wife of Åmund* ARNBJØRNSSON
in Vikedal, Rogaland, Norway.(892)

Abbot Trugils ÅMUNDSEN på Utstein Kloster
(892) was born about 1500 in Ile gård #31, Vikedal, Rogaland,
Norway. "Hr Trugils Amunsen had purchased or redeemed some property which
was later involved in a lawsuit. The case concerned the allodial rights to Vaula
and the judgement was pronounced on 5 Jun 1554 by superintendent (Bishop) in
Stavanger Jon Guttormsen, vebner Trondt Iffuersson and lagmann in Stavanger Lauritz
Hansson between Sigmundt Tolleffson on his mother-in-law's behalf and "Arnbjørn
på Jill." Arnbjørn said that his brother, hr. Trugils (Truls)
Cannon in Stavanger, purchased the farm from Are Marcusson, who was married to
Gitlaug Svensdatter, the maternal granddaughter of Torald Bergulvson (see Byre
family from Aga). She had the allodial right to the property. Later, Arnbjørn
inherited the farm Vaula from his brother, hr. Trugils. The farm was awarded
to Gitlaug Svensdatter and her heirs for the same price that Truls had bought
it for, namely 12 bugilde marks of silver, which was paid to Arnbjørn.
This property at Vaula must have belonged to the Byre family. In this family
we encounter name combinations of Amund and Arnbjørn which we also see in
the family from Ile. (see under Byre-Aga). That could lead us to guess that
the Ile family was a continuation of the Byre family. The names Amund (Ogmund)
and Arnbjørn, together with the property at Vaula could signify that. The
fact that hr. Trugils rose to such a high office in the Church could also mean
that he belonged to a well-known family."
