PROVIDED BY CAROL BOYKIN, TEXAS CO. MISSOURI - DIRECT DESCENDANT Affidavit of Rachel Murr, State of Missouri, County of Texas In the matter of a claim for a pension of Rachel Murr, dependent mother of Lewis A. Murr, late of Company L, 3rd Tennesse Cavalry Volunteers, Union Forces. On this 2nd day of June 1887, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace, in and for the aforesaid county, duly authorized to administer oats, Rachel Murr, age 79 years, as resident of _____in the county of Texas and State of Missouri, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares in relation to aforesaid case as follows: "I am the claiment in this case and my Post Office address at the time my said son enlisted in 1863 was Madisonville, Monroe Co., Tenn. and in 1863 I moved to Annie, Union Co. Illinois and in 1869 I moved to Texas Co., Missouri. That since the death of my said son, there was no person or persons legally bound to support me. That the names and ages of my children other than the said Lewis A. Murr, who are alive in the year 1863 are as follows viz: John Murr was 37 years of age, Henry Murr was aged 34 years, Lucy A. Murr was aged 32 years, James Murr aged 28 years, Violet Murr aged 26 years, Mary Murr aged 24 years, William Murr aged 19 year, Alfred Murr age 17, Amanda Murr aged 13 years and Dorcas Murr aged 11 years. I have not remarried since the ____(death?) of my said son Lewis A. I was married to Jeremiah Murr on the 30th day of August, 1825 in Washington Co. Tennessee and my said son, Louis A. Murr was born on the 19th day of August, 1841. My Post Office address is Mountain Grove, Wright Co, Missouri." Rachel (her mark) Murr If affiant signs by mark, 2 persons who can write sign here: Frank Beagle Lucinda Murr State of Missouri, County of Texas On this 12th day of May 1887 personally appeared before me, the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the same being a Court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid, Rachel Murr, a resident of Mountain Grove, County of Wright, in the State of Missouri, aged 78 years, who, being dulysworn according to law, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by Acts of Congress granting pensions to dependent mothers. That she is the widow of Jeremiah Murr and mother of Louis A. Murr who enlisted under the name of Louis A. Murr at Knoxville, Tennessee on the 23rd day of October 1863 in Company L, 3 Tennessee in the war of the rebellion, who died at Chattanooga, Tenn. of scurvy and chronic diarrhea on the 5th day of Sept 1864, that said son Louis A. Murr left neither widow nor child under 16 years of age surviving; that she was partly dependent upon her son for support, that her husband, the aforesaid Jeremiah Murr aged 82 years who died on the 7th day of Oct 1874 and I have not remarried since his death. That there were surviving at date of said son's death, his brothers and sisters, who were under 16 years of age, as follows: Dorcas Murr, born Aug 17, 1852 and Amanda Murr born Aug 19, 1850, that she has not heretofore received nor applied for pension, that she has not aided or abetted the Rebellion. That she hereby appoints Joseph H. Hunter of Washington, D.c. her attorney to prosecute the said claim, that her residence is Mountain Grove, Wright co, Missouri.
