Alexander Meyers
Alexander Meyers, in his 91st year, died at his home, 116 Canal Street, at 6:15 o'clock this morning as a result of a general wearing out of the system. Despite his advanced age he had been able to attend church and had been about the house until last Thursday, when he was obliged to remain in bed. Mr Meyers was born in Baden, Germany, Oct 8, 1828. He came to this country and directly to Rome 71 years ago, and since then has always lived here. He was employed by G V Selden Lumber Company for 40 years, and when that firm moved to Florida he entered the employ of the Beach Lumber Company, remaining in their employ until he retired.
In this city about 63 years ago he married Mary Anna Weiser of Baden, Germany, with whom he became acquainted on the ship while en route to this county. Mrs Meyers died here about 12 years ago. Surviving are four children, Maxmilian and Edward Meyers, Mrs Thomas McCall and Mrs Arthur Bahler; two brothers, Leopold and Felix Meyers, and 12 grandchildren, all residents of this city. Mr Meyers was a faithful member of St Mary's Church. He was a man of quiet disposition and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends who will regret to learn of his passing.
