Following informal church services and a potluck lunch, President Martha Wells called the 1991 meeting of the Gerking Family Association to order at 1:15 p.m. Thirty-two Gerking family members signed the guest register.
Martha invited everyone to enjoy Washington Park, including the Rose Gardens nearby. She reminded everyone to sign the register so we can keep track of who attended the meeting. She announced that copies of the 1990 edition of The Gerking Family in America were available for sale at the meeting and thanked Florence Bowe for all the work she has done documenting our family history and putting this expanded edition together. Florence and Larry were present at the reunion, and were applauded for all their work.
Martha opened the meeting for sharing of family history. Lola Graves presented a history of the family connections in Gilliam County, OR.
Secretary-Treasurer Beth Johnston read the minutes of the 1990 reunion meeting. She reported that there is $1,377.93 in the Gerking Family savings account. It was moved and seconded that the minutes and treasurer’s reports be accepted, and the motion passed.
Margaret Shibley extended an invitation for the reunion to be held in 1992 at the Forest Home Stock Farm near Estacada, OR. Horseback riding, swimming, camping, and RV places are among the accommodations available there.
Florence Bowe suggested that for next year’s reunion family members bring stories about their parents, grandparents, and other family members for sharing with the group.
After checking the group, Martha announced that Maude Wells (86) and Lola Graves (85) would share honors as the oldest people present. Carolyn Ann McQueen, 3, was the youngest present, and Wally Young had come the farthest (from Hawaii). Taking a count of families within the Gerking family, there were four each of Bixbys, Wells, Becks, and Rowes. Ralph Gerking of Hillsboro, OR was the only person surnamed Gerking at the reunion.
It was moved and seconded that Martha Wells remain as president and Beth Johnston as secretary-treasurer. The motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m. Following adjournment the family was entertained by the Bixby quartet and other family members who joined in the fun.
