My dear Dr. Thompson:-
I have just learned of the time set for the Albertson – Aten reunion, which is to be on Saturday August 19th. Mr. Harris of Belvidere will also no doubt write you.
I have been very successful lately in my search for missing members of the descendants of Adrian Aten of Readington. The descendants of his son Hendrick, have not been known heretofore, but I am now in communication with some of them. His son John settled in Columbia Co. Pa. on Chilisquaque Creek, where he operated a mill. Some of his descendants took the name Auten, and a descendant of this one is H.F.Auten, a lawyer of Little Rock, Arkansas. The fact that he had the grit to run as the Republican candidate for Governor in that state of brutal democratic majorities last year, reminds me of the old Dutchmans prayer you told about.
Then to day I received a very good letter from a descendant of Adrian, the youngest son of Adrian and Jacobje. Adrian, sold his farm in Northampton Co.Pa. and removed to Washington Co. in same state, and lived and died in Moon Township.
I hope to be able to go on to the reunion, and shall hope to meet you and your brother there again.
I find the Wynkoop genealogy the very best method that I have yet seen, Provided, one had all the material he ever expected to get, before him at the start. But for one making a copy to which he hopes to add to as long as he lives, it is not suited. So I shall have to change to some method that will allow additions to any generation whenever found.
I hope you are enjoying your vacation on the beautiful Raritan.
Sincerely Yours,
Henry J
