note: “of the Aten race” = met the angel of death.] William Aten of Astoria, Ill. writes that Aaron H. Aten of Good Hope, Ill., Elizabeth Kurkindall, wife of James Kurkindall, late of Bryant, Ill., William Aten late of Brooke Co. West Virginia and who married there in 1806 and he writes Uncle Cornelius Aten, late of Peoria Ill. were all of the Aten race. Adrian Aten [b. 24 Apr 1856], United Presbyterian Minister of Madison Indiana, says his grandfather [Adrian, b. 1760] was born in Washington Co., Pa. in 1760 whence he moved to Kentucky where he married in 1788 and soon after moved to Puble [Preble] Co.,Ohio. His children were Peter born 1793, died in 1842 and Aaron Menford [Monfort] born 1796, died 1874. Adrian, his father, also a minister of the U.P. church was born in 1800, died 1881. C. M. Aten, President of Lampasas College, Texas is thought to be one of the Aten race. |
