Jacob was the son of Louis ROTHE, who was born in Warmensteinach, Oberfranken, Bavaria, and his wife Mary NEY who was born in D'Hanis, Medina Co. TX. Mary's family was from Dillengen, Saarland, Germany. The ROTHES and the NEYS are known as German-Texans because they were of groups immigrating directly into Texas from Germany in the 1840s and 1850s. They came on their own initiative, attracted by books and letters written by their fellow countrymen and friends in Texas. These people tended to settle in the Texas Hill Country, and their intermarriages which continue to modern times have helped to preserve their German culture and traditions.
