Christian Kranzbühler served in the military in 1917 at near Ypres, Belgium, in WWI in the 15th Regiment of the 2nd Guard Reserve Division, where he lost a leg between 12 July 1917 and 31 July 1917. In the Book "All quiet on the Western Front" written in 1929 by his comrade Erich Paul Remarque, his name is "Franz Kemmerich" (whereby the last name of his real live stepfather is "Kemmrich"). In the book he dies in hospital but in reality he survives the first world war and causes Remarque a lot of trouble after the war, when he reports him to the military police for "falsely wearing an officers uniform and not-earned decorations."3,4
Christian married Hildegard Rosse on 26 November 1934 at Nordhausen im Harz, Thüringen, Germany.1
