We are so pleased you have visited our
web page for Asthon Sosi Chapter NSDAR in Peoria. Asthon
Sosi (say Adz-thon So SI) is the Navajo word for
Slim Woman. This is a name they gave Louisa Wade Wetherill, wife
of Indian Trader John Wetherill, in honor of the very
significant work she did on behalf of the Navajo people to improve their
life.
We are a modestly sized Daughters of
the American Revolution Chapter located in Peoria, Arizona, a
northwestern suburb of Phoenix. Our membership welcomes women with
careers, past and present, and we include both those who
combined career and home, and those who focused exclusively on running
a household.
We meet at our regent's home each
month, from September of 2008 through June of 2009. Email
Susan Moore
Teller for more information.
In September, the first meeting
is on Tuesday, September 2, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm. The topic:
the Great Generation...focused on World War II hero stories, but
covering any war in which those attending have a family
hero they are proud of. Members will be sharing stories of
the war time hero they most admire in their American Family
after a brief business meeting. Refreshments will follow the
meeting.
The second and follow up meeting will
be the identical topic, held for those who prefer a
Saturday daytime meeting, held on Saturday, September 7, 1:00pm to 3:00
pm.
The first meeting of the month
is held on the evening of the first Tuesday of each
month, from 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The follow up meeting
with exactly the same program is the Saturday after the Tuesday
evening meeting from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. We do this so busy women
can always fit in our meetings.
We like to think our meetings are
exciting and thought provoking. We also like to organize trips to
amazing historical places. We are currently planning a Charter Bus
trip to Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenberg, AZ. It
features wonderful, intricate basketry done by many Indian
nations, but particularly the Navajo. It features a "old
town" which resembles an early settlement. It features
beautiful art by early western artists and sculptors, many nationally
known.
We cordially welcome new members,
and can offer assistance and advice to locate and
document your revolutionary ancestors if you believe they exist.
Women over the age of 18 are welcome to attend and be active in
our group while work is being done to track down your ancestors!
Please do join us.
