He married Elizabeth Palfrey c1705.(84) poss c1697 (Elizabeth Palfrey is #13429.)

He resided in Portsmouth, Rockingham, NH 13 May 1711-1722.(87) He resided in Boston, Suffolk, MA 1726.(88) when he conveyed to Westbrook
Abstract from The Skillings Family by W.M. Sargent, p 6:
"John apparently never married; was of Boston 1726, when he conveyed to Westbrook." This statement seems to have been discovered to be false - see abstracts below from Small Genealogy and Winchester Notes ....
Abstract from Desc of Edward Small by Underhill - Roberts Family, V 2, p 1137:
I. John3 was of Boston in 1726, where he founded a family. (See a MS in possession of the New England Historic Genealogical Society.) He conveyed land at Falmouth in 1726 to Colonel Thomas Westbrook {York County Deeds, Book 14:168].
Abstract from Winchester Notes by Fanny Winchester Hotchkiss, pp 82-83:
Miss Emily Wilder Leavitt, a Boston genealogist, in 1898, carefully examined church records, Maine wills, York deeds, etc., and the story they give seems to show that John Skillings (Thomas1) did not die until 1712-14; that he removed with his family to Piscataqua, and that he may have gone to Portsmouth; that his widow and children went to Portsmouth; that his son Samuel returned to Falmouth; his son Josiah went to Kittery and died there; and that John and Elizabeth of Portsmouth, afterwards of Boston, in 1726, can readily have been the John, born in 1675-81, and so the father of John, Simeon and others of New North Church Records of Boston. John went to Portsmouth, where the North Church Records state: "Elizabeth Skillen, received to full communion July 1, 1713." Also the following children baptized there:
Simeon Skillen, baptized May 13, 1711. Simeon Skillen, baptized May 27, 1716. Mary Skillen, baptized Oct. 26, 1718. Sarah Skillen, baptized Sept. 3, 1721, by Rev. Nathaniel Rogers.
The same children are again found in Boston (Boston Marriages 1700-1751): Simeon Skillings, married March 15, 1738, Ruth Skillings. Mary Skillings, married Sept. 25, 1739, Thomas Adams. Sarah Skillings, married April 19, 1744, Jonathan Crosby.
(Gen. III) CHILDREN OF JOHN AND ELIZABETH SKILLINGS.
1. JOHN SKILLINGS, born 1675-81; married Elizabeth (???). 2. SAMUEL SKILLINGS, born July 25, 1677 (Maine Recorder, Vol. II, p. 103); married, July 25, 1702, Rhoda Haley. 3. JOSIAH SKILLINGS, married May 17, 1708, Elizabeth Lydston. 4. REBECCA SKILLINGS, married George Frink, probably son of John of Ipswich.
John Skillings3 (Thomas1, John2), born 1675-81, is probably the one who, with wife Elizabeth, removed from Portsmouth, N. H., to Boston, and settled there about 1726. According to Sargent's Record (Maine Historical Records, Vol. II) this John Skillings never married, but Rockingham County Deeds, New Hampshire (see Vol. IX, p. 16; Vol. X, p. 296; Vol. XV, p. 88), prove that John Skillings sold his property at Portsmouth, N. H., and two of these deeds have the signature of wife Elizabeth.
Abstract from Skillings 8 Generations, p 16:
John3 Skillin (John2, Thomas1), b abt 1676 Falmouth, ME. He was of Portsmouth, NH (1711-22) and Boston, MA (1726). He m abt 1705 Elizabeth Palfrey, d/o William and Constance (?) Palfrey. John bought Pickerings Neck, Portsmouth, NH with no buildings on it; sold it with many improvements thereon. Strawberry Banks thinks one room of John's house went to the Metropolitan Museum, NY and one to the Henry Ford Museum, Dearborn, MI (prob because of the woodworking). Apparently he was a member of Portsmouth's North Parish where his son Simeon was bp. His wife Elizabeth was received into full communion in Jul 1713 and the second child named Simeon (he who was to become the famed Boston shipcarver) was bp there.
In 1717 John signed a petition for relief from support of a minister no longer present and he was one of several signers of a petition to Gov Samuel Shute regarding division of Portsmouth into two parishes. In May 1722 he was one of the proprietors of the new town of Barrington, NH where he held 96 acres and paid 10 shillings parish tax, though he prob never lived there. As a Boston shipwright he sold 12 Sep 1726 to Thomas Westbrook, then of Portsmouth, later of Stroudwater, ME, all his Falmouth lands for L25 (York Deeds 14:168). On 2 Nov 1727 he witnessed the deed of Margery Stevens et al to John Smith of 7 acres in North Yarmouth, ME. He d after this date and bef 1730, when his wife is spoken of solely as possessor of a "former dwelling" in Falmouth (York Deeds 14:19). Presumably, both he and his wife d in the Boston area, but where they are buried is not on record, though it may prob be Copp's Hill. Children (all bp Portsmouth):
1. Elizabeth, b bef 1706; m 7/27 Oct 1725 Nicholas Lash 2. Hannah, b abt 1706; m 8 Sep 1726 Ephraim Sherburne 3. Simeon, bp 13 May 1711; d young 4.
