When his uncle, Luther Hanscome (1852-1930), died on 23 Jun 1930, Alpheus was listed as one of his hirs, but here's the wording in the probate papers, "newphew, A. Leon Hanscome, address unknown." As it turns out, Alpheus was probably in California. I have a copy of a San Francisco newspaper article, dated 2 Aug 1931, entitled, "Mrs. Hanscome Admits 'Raid' on Mate's Files." There is a picture of both her and her husband, Alpheus Hanscome, a "San Francisco financier," and a somewhat lurid description of their divorce wrangles. This was not Ethel (Robbins) Hanscome, but rather a 3rd wife - Mrs. Eva H. Hanscome, if you'd like. I also have a notation that Alpheus' 1st wife, Myrtle (McDuffee) Hanscome, was "Myrtle L. Taft of Newtonville, Mass" in 1909 when she was granted guardianship of her son, William H. Hanscome.
