375. Ardelia Mae⁵ Farris (Farries) (Pvt Daniel⁴, Hannah Bridges³ Blackwood, Matthew², Cpl Matr James (John)¹) (#41896) was born in Charlotte, Washington, ME 3 Sep 1862.⁽¹⁴¹⁸⁾ Individual flags: Twin. Ardelia died 13 Jan 1930 in Calais, Washington, ME, at 67 years of age.⁽¹⁴¹⁹⁾ Notes from Fisher-Szewczyk:

Many friends will learn with regret the death of Mrs. Ardelia M. Smith, widow of the late John Smith, which took place at her late home on 141 Union Street this city [Calais], Monday January 18, 1930. Mrs. Smith was one of the best known and most beloved women in her community. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy and in times of trouble and sickness comforted many a home. She came to Calais 52 years ago the bridge of the late John A. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was born in Charlotte, ME 67 years age daughter of Margaret and Daniel Farris and was the mother of 16 children eleven of whom are living as follows:

Fref F. Smith, Reading, Mass; W.H. Smith, Calais, ME; Thomas C. Smith of Ellsworth, ME; Henry A. Smith of Boston, MA; Robert of Boston, MA; Arthur F. Smith of Calais, ME; Benjamin Smith of NY; Ethel Gill of Reading, MA; Edward F. Smith of Boston, MA; Arvilla G. Smith of Calais, ME; and Harvey P. Smith of Calais, ME.

Thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, one twin sister Mrs. Arvilla Bridges of Foxboro, MA; Carrie M. Smith of North Adams, MA; George Farris of Boston, MA; Herman Farris of Charlotte, ME also survive her.

Funeral services were held on Thursday January 18 from her late home and were conducted by Rev. Isaac Lidstone assisted by Rev. Edmund Hailstone of St. Stephen, New Brunswick. A male quartet rendered two of her favorite hymns "Beautiful ?[Isle] of Somewhere" and "Sleep Well." Many beautiful tributes were given to show the love and sympathy of relatives and friends. The bearers were her nine sons. Interment was in the family plot in the Calais, ME cemetery under the direciton of Mr. ?.

"We have loved our darling mother she has bid us all adieu she has gone to live in Heaven and her form is lost to view Oh, that dear one how we loved her Oh how hard to give her away But as Angel came down for her and removed her from out sight."

She married John Augustus Smith in Calais, Washington, ME, 28 Aug 1878.⁽¹⁴²¹⁾ (John Augustus Smith is #41897.) John was born 23 Feb 1854 in Calais, Washington, ME.⁽¹⁴²²⁾ John was the son of Benjamin Smith and Mary Farris. John died 3 Dec 1921 in Calais, Washington, ME, at 67 years of age.⁽¹⁴²³⁾ Occupation: merchant.⁽¹⁴²⁴⁾

Note: Her brother William Henry Smith's obit says she was "Miss Arvilla Smith, Swampscott" when he died 27 Feb 1940; however, she was "Mrs. Arvilla Bridges of Foxborough, Mass" 18 Jan 1930 in her mother's obit. - need to clarify when she was married and where she resided on those two dates. (he Bridges is #50132.)
