Many friends will learn with regret the death of Mrs. Ardelia M. Smith, widow of the late John Smith, which took place at her late home on 141 Union Street this city [Calais], Monday January 18, 1930. Mrs. Smith was one of the best known and most beloved women in her community. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to the needy and in times of trouble and sickness comforted many a home. She came to Calais 52 years ago the bridge of the late John A. Smith.
Mrs. Smith was born in Charlotte, ME 67 years age daughter of Margaret and Daniel Farris and was the mother of 16 children eleven of whom are living as follows:

Smith of Calais, ME; Benjamin Smith of NY; Ethel Gill of Reading, MA; Edward F. Smith of Boston, MA; Arvilla G. Smith of Calais, ME; and Harvey P. Smith of Calais, ME.
Thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, one twin sister Mrs. Arvilla Bridges of Foxboro, MA; Carrie M. Smith of North Adams, MA; George Farris of Boston, MA; Herman Farris of Charlotte, ME also survive her.
Funeral services were held on Thursday January 18 from her late home and were conducted by Rev. Isaac Lidstone assisted by Rev. Edmund Hailstone of St. Stephen, New Brunswick. A male quartet rendered two of her favorite hymns "Beautiful ?[Isle] of Somewhere" and "Sleep Well." Many beautiful tributes were given to show the love and sympathy of relatives and friends. The bearers were her nine sons. Interment was in the family plot in the Calais, ME cemetery under the direciton of Mr. ?.
"We have loved our darling mother she has bid us all adieu she has gone to live in Heaven and her form is lost to view Oh, that dear one how we loved her Oh how hard to give her away But as Angel came down for her and removed her from out sight."
