She married Joseph Aloysius Ackermann in Wheeling, Ohio, WV, 24 Jun 1908.(28) The marriage license for Joseph A. Ackermann and Bertha S. Watson shows that Joseph was 31 years of age, was born in Wheeling, WV, and on the 24th day of June 1908, he was living in Wheeling. Bertha was 26 years of age, born in Mt. Vernon, OH, and living in Neffs, OH. The Minister's Return of Marriage shows that Joseph and Bertha were married on 24 June 1908 at the rectory of St. Alphonsus' Church in Wheeling, WV by Rev. Maurice Ackermann. Copy of license/return in file. (Joseph Aloysius Ackermann is #1666.)
Joseph was born 28 May 1877 in Wheeling, Ohio, WV.(29) Joseph was the son of Clemens (Clement) Ackermann and Barbara Heil. Joseph died 24 Oct 1946 in Wheeling, Ohio, WV, at 69 years of age.(30) His body was interred 26 Oct 1946 in Wheeling, Ohio, WV, Mt. Occupation: furrier. Bertha was a member of St. Alphonsus Church (catholic), Wheeling, WV (convert) According to family sources, Bertha learned furrier trade from Jewish furrier in Wheeling - will need to check on this. According to Bertha's death certificate (#79, WV Division of Vital Statistics - copy in my possession), Bertha died of cerebral thrombosis due to arteriosclerosis at the age of 76 years, 11 months, 19 days on March 20, 1958. At the time of her death she was living at 4245 Wood Street, Wheeling, WV. Her death certificate states that she was born March 31, 1881, in Mt. Vernon [Knox County], OH, and that her father was named William Watson) Her SS # was 233-09-1472, the informant was George A. Ackermann (her son, with whom she lived at the time of her death). The death certificate states that her father was William Watson, but does not list her mother's name. She was buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Wheeling on 24 March 1958, undertaker H. B. Altmeyer of Wheeling. However, the birth certificate of her son, George Ackermann, (Reg. #79, Wheeling, Ohio County, WV records) states that Bertha's birthplace was St. Clairsville [Belmont County], OH. So....it remains that I must find her place of birth. It also states that Bertha was 37 years old at the birth of her son, George (on Jan 30, 1926), which means she was born in 1889 not 1881 as we have been informed by her death certificate. Family tradition puts her as being the youngest child of William and Jane Watson (born after 1897). The marriage certificate of Joseph and Bertha Watson Ackermann states that on 24 June 1908 she was 26 years old, which would make her born in 1882. It also stated that at the time of her marriage she was a resident of Neffs [Belmont County], OH. I will investigate all date and place possibilities. If Bertha was the youngest child of William and Jane Watson, and/or born prior to 1900, why isn't she listed on the census of 1900 with the rest of her family????
