SHAW, 70, FARMER OF ROWLETT COMMUNITY, DIES Funeral services for Samuel Shepperd Shaw, aged 70, Rowlett farmer who died late Saturday afternoon, were held at his home yesterday, with Rev. Emmett Wilson officiating. Interment was at the Copperas Springs cemetery in charge of Doolin Funeral home. Mr. Shaw, a member of the Baptist church, had been ill three months. Born in Alabama January 1, 1875, he lived in this state most of his life. Survivors include three sons, J. W. (Willie) Shaw and E.M. (Ernest) Shaw of New Home, and T.V. (Vernon) Shaw of the Rowlett community; two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Mamie) Price and Mrs. Lula Gray of the Rowlett community; a sister, Mrs. Rebecca Glover of Wooster, and a brother, Stanley Shaw of Pleasant Valley. Pallbearers were Arvil Clendennin, Herman Bivens, Cleveland Gray, Sherman Duncan, and Watson Williams. |

She would bake sweet potatoes after school for the kids. She would milk the cows and churn the butter and would then share with the neighbors when their cows would "go dry." There was no real buying and selling in those days, since there wasn't a lot of cash money. After her husband, Gus died, she lived by herself until she was 87 years old.
