Online Indexing


Volunteers extract family history information from digital images of historical documents to create searchable indexes that assist everyone in finding their ancestors.   I

Here are tasks for you to accomplish for this challenge.

Week 1:  Get Registered

  1. Go to http://www.familysearchindexing.org
  2. On the right side of the screen, click on the VOLUNTEER button
  3. Choose a username and password, then fill in the form application.
  4. Be sure to click the BOX for LDS Volunteers and let them know you belong to the Garland 2nd Ward
  5. Download the software.
  6. Go to http://www.familysearchindexing.org/support/tutorials.jsf and complete the FamilySearch Indexing Tutorials
  7. Call Carol Jones, Garland 2nd Ward's indexing leader, and let her know you have signed up.

Week 2:  Begin Indexing

  1. Download your first indexing project and complete it.

Weeks 3 +:  Finish 10 hours of Indexing

1.   Set a goal to complete at least one indexing batch per week.  Complete at least 10 hours to fulfill this project's requirements.
2.  
Write in your journal about your feelings and experiences from indexing.

Conclusion:

At our Ward Social near the end of the summer, bring your journal or summary of what you complete.   You will not be giving us the summary, only showing it as evidence of finishing your challenge in order to receive your award of completion.
