Village of Polar/Muller's Lake/Sylvan Lake, Town of Polar, Langlade County, Wisconsin
Village
The Village of Polar was originally named "Muller's Lake" after Moritz Muller the first homesteader.
After 1888 when the Webster Manufacturing Company erected their mills at the village it was re-named "Sylvan Lake" by Mrs. Weeks, the postmistress. The mill pond was then a large body of water and the name applied directly to it.
After the Webster Company sold their interests the name reverted back to "Muller's Lake." Today the spelling of the name is "Mueller's Lake."
Finally, the citizens voted to name the village "Polar" after H.B. Polar, the Indian trader, for whom the township was also named to honor.
