- Civil/Political Town: Town of Gagen. Created February 19, 1881 as one of the original six towns in Langlade County. Area: 396+ sq. miles.

- Town named after Dan Gagen, early pioneer of the area.
- Town Post Office was called Freidenland /Frydenland/Rice Lake/Mole Lake.
- Frydenland had a post office from 1878 until 1888
- Mole Lake had a post office from 1916 until 1929.
- Gagen had a post office from 1887 until 1891.
- Early settler was Wilhelm Dinesen. His historic house has been restored at Mole Lake.
- Vacated April 11, 1885 when it became part of Forest County.
