Railroad Spurs
The Marinette, Tomahawk & Western Railway Co. laid track from Grundy to McInnes in 1901 which was a distance of 19.25 miles.
In 1905 the Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul Rail Road, which took over the MTW, laid an extension southerly 1.55 miles and the next year continued on to Kalinke a distance of 6.33 miles.
McInness Spur, 1,403 feet long. "McInness" is the spelling found in railroad history sources. This spur goes east and north from the Grundy to Kalinke branch line of the Marinette, Tomahawk & Western/Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul Railroad line. The spur starts in the middle of section 19 of T31N, - R9E (West Ackley) going north into section 18 and then east into section 17 where it ends.
Also Known As:
McInnis. Alternate spelling I have seen for this spur..
McGinnis is the name for this spur in Dessureau's History of Langlade County.
Russian is the name for this spur on the Robert Bernsteen Map in the book "Not Long Ago."
Behm Spur, 75 feet long. This spur started at approximately the section line between sections 19 and 30 which today in State Highway 64.
Bellmeyer Spur, 918 feet long. This spur started near the Langlade and Marathon County line in section 32. I have seen this spur name spelled "Bellmeier."
All located along the former railroad tracks in the southwestern part of the west part of Ackley (T31N, R9E) in sections 19, 30, 31, and 32.
I have not found any information about any communities that were located at these railroad spurs so I would assume they were named for the logger operating along them.
