- Village
- Village name spelling.
- Heinemann or Heineman
- In 1919 Walter Ben Heineman, the son of Benjamin Heinemann, changed the spelling of the family name from "Heinemann" to "Heineman." By 1919 the Village was already a ghost town so the correct spelling is with two "n's."
- Beginning
- Village called Lumberton on timber bond legal papers.
- In 1894 or 1897(sources differ ), H.C. Humphrey, G.W. Hogben, and A.M. Lanning organized the Antigo Screen Door Company in Antigo. This business was discontinued in a short time.
- The company was reorganized again and they erected a factory on the Eau Claire river in section 28 of East Ackley where the east and west branches of the Eau Claire River join.
- They employed 110 men and turned out about 150,000 doors in a season during their best year.
- A.M. Lanning and A.C. Campbell operated factory until they went bankrupt in 1897.
- In 1901 Ben Heinemann and his partner Shuhbring bought out the Campbell and Laning Co.
- Benjamin Heinemann and Sigmund Heinemann, brothers, formed a partnership in 1883. In 1902 their company was divided into the Heinemann Lumber Co. at Heinemann, the Foster and Ratimer Co. at Mellen, and the B. Heinemann Lumber Co. at Wausau.
- Railroad Tracks
- Chicago & Northwestern built in 1901or 1903 (sources differ) tracks from Antigo to the mill and then on to Casper..
- Tracks were removed in 1929.
- Buildings
- Saw Mill
- In 1911 most of the mill burned down along with a large lumber supply. Six months later the company closed down and the company moved operations to Merrill. The community soon became a ghost town.
- Planing Mill
- Hotel owned by lumber company
- Store owned by lumber company
- In 1919 the first cheese factory in Ackley was started in this building.
- In 1920 it was bought by the Ackley Farmers Dairy Produce Company.
- In 1921 the building burned down.
- A mansion which was lived in by the Heinemann Family. Walter Heinemann, superintendent of operations spent part of his honeymoon there. When the house was razed much of the timber was used to built a home in Antigo built by attorney Charles B. Avery.
- Houses owned and rented by the lumber company to its employees.
- After the mill burned many of the houses were purchased by the Langlade Lumber Company of Antigo and moved near their mill in August, 1917.
- At one time the village had a post office.
- Riverview Park
- On west bank of Eau Claire River.
- A large dance pavilion erected in 1921.
- Eugene Mullen conducted a soft drink parlor.
