Henry Castle1, #1024/1025 (First Generation America), the immigrant ancestor of this particular CASTLE Family was born about 1613 in England, origin not known. Many say he came to America aboard the ship 'Transport' 4th. July 1635, as a Henry Castle, age 22 is listed on this ship. Brainerd's "Castle Family" mentions a possible marriage 1630 or earlier. Nothing has been found, so far, to prove either of these beliefs. Henry died 2 Feb. 1697/8, aged 84, Woodbury, Fairfield Co., Connecticut. His death is the first on record there. Estate AdmHe married Abigail DICKERSON #1025, who was born about 1645, daughter of Thomas DICKERSON (d 1658 Fairfield Co., Conn.) and Mary _____, who married #2, Daniel Finch around 1659-60 and #3 Nicholas Pinion. Abigail, at first, was thought to be the daughter of Daniel Finch, however, due to extensive study done by Donald Lines Jacobus, she was found to be his stepdaughter. (The daughter of Mary and first husband, Thomas Dickerson).There is a manuscript in the Connecticut State Library in reference to Abigail Dickerson being the daughter of Thomas Dickerson. Abigail was admitted to the 1st. Cong. Church of Woodbury 10 June 1705. She died Dec. 1725, Fairfield, Co., Conn.
All written references found so far, date the marriage of Henry and Abigail around 1665/6 at Stratford, Fairfield Co., Conn. No record has yet, been found regarding this date.
Henry Sr. first appears on records as witnessing the will of Daniel Finch, his wife's step-father, 5th March 1666/7. Jacobus says Henry received a land grant at Fairfield 25 Dec 1678. He appears in town records for the town of Stratfield(the border ground between Stratford and Fairfield), Fairfield Co., Conn. until 1673 when he removed to Woodbury (Land of Judea), Fairfield Co., Conn.
Henry, apparently was educated as he could read and write when signing Daniel Finch's will.
