McHardy

Origin and Meaning of the name McHardy

McHardy is clearly a name of Scottish origin. Mc meaning son of plus Hardy.

Introduction

The McHardy connection in my family is to the Pearsons of Westmorland. From the 1881 census I have found that my great grandfather's brother, William Pearson married a Scottish girl called Sophia McHardy.

Aims of my Research

The basic aim to my McHardy research was to find out as much as possible about Sophia McHardy and her family, which part of Scotland she came from and how she and William Pearson met. Did he go to Scotland and meet her there or did she come with her family to Westmorland?
