My Research Results

Fairhurst Baybutt, 1881

On 20th October 1863 Fairhurst Baybutt (father's name John) married Elizabeth Cheetham (father's name John) in Liverpool. The witnesses were William Smith & Catherine Spencer.

I believe this Elizabeth Cheetham was my gg grandmother Margaret Ruddock, ne้ Cheetham's sister.

Margaret died in about 1880 and her children and their Baybutt cousins are living with their grandmother on the Canal Bank at Lydiate on the 1881 census

Fairhurst Baybutt, 1871

Going back ten years to the 1871 census I found Fairhurst and Elizabeth Baybutt:

Lathom / Burscough area.
Gobbins Lane, 3878 - 98
Fairhurst Baybutt H M 32 Boatman Manchester
Elizabeth W M 24 Lathom
Susannah D 3 Burscough
Elizabeth D 1 Burscough

Could both Fairhurst and Elizabeth have died by 1881 thus leaving Susannah, now 14 with her grandfather Thomas Cheetham, and 12 year old Elizabeth and 7 year old catherine with their grandmother, Elizabeth Cheetham. Catherine's age means that they were still alive until 1874.
