The Mines Inspectors Report reads:
"Inspection made and inquest attended. They were fixing a pipe in
the pumping shaft when one of the planks forming the scaffold on which
they stood broke with their weight and they both fell down the pit. On
inspection the plank proved to be quite rotten. Anderton was in charge 
of this shaft and it was his duty to examine the scaffold. 2 killed."
