Note on the "Lost" Irish Censuses
Searching for ancestors in Ireland requires more detective work than other places as, although government censuses were taken of the whole island in 1821, 1831, 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 1901, and 1911. The first four, for 1821, 1831, 1841, and 1851, were largely destroyed by a fire at the Public Record Office in 1922, while those for 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 were controversially destroyed by government order during the First World War.

First Anderton in Ireland?
In September 1600, the Irish forces of Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone, had rebelled against the English crown. Lord Mountjoy, in charge of the English forces built a fort called Mount Norris between Newry and Armagh. "Within this fort Captain Anderton has built a fair cage-work house, and others to keep victual and munition in." - Extract taken from "The Scotch-Irish or The Scot in North Britain, North Ireland, and North America. Chapter XXXV The Ulster Plantation from 1610 to 1630.Many of the English soldiers in Ireland were granted lands there and stayed on, marrying into Irish families.
