General Information
The Anderson/Andersen Family DNA Project is one of the largest projects associated with Family Tree DNA. As of September 30, 2009 we have 331 members and 315 Y-DNA kits have been returned to Family Tree DNA. The DNA testing has been done and members have been assigned to their respective Groups dependent upon the findings of the test results.
This project was begun in April 2003 and started with the purchase of three (3) kits. Since that time, we have averaged 4.4 people joining the Anderson/Andersen Family DNA Project on a monthly basis. We are very pleased with these figures and we hope to continue growing at this rate. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who is Family Tree DNA? Family Tree DNA is the company the Anderson/Andersen Family DNA Project chose to conduct testing for Anderson males participating in DNA study. You will receive a discount if you join through the project. Who can be a test participant? The yDNA test is used for testing males only. The yDNA test uses information from the y-chromosome, which is passed from father to son, essentially unchanged. This test is only useful in testing the male participant's father's father's ... father's line. As this line is associated with Surnames in western societies, it is pretty easy to visualize - and to track through genealogy. All men who share the same "common ancestor" will carry essentially the same yDNA and receive tests results that are also essentially the same. What about women who wish to be tested? Females may order an mtDNA test. The mtDNA stands for mitochondrial DNA. How do I join the Anderson/sen Family DNA Project? The first thing to remember is you must be an Anderson male to participate in the yDNA study. If you have already tested at Family Tree DNA, go to your personal page, click on the link to the left that says, "JOIN PROJECTS". If you see the Anderson/sen Family DNA Project listed, click on the link to join. If you do not see the Anderson/sen Family DNA Project listed, type the world ANDERSON in the search box and the project will be listed. Click on the appropriate link to join. If you have NOT participated yet in a DNA study you can test within our project and enjoy a project related discount by clicking on this link: http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Anderson How do I track my mitochondrial DNA? Mitochondrial DNA or mtDNA, is passed from mother to both male and female children. However, only female children pass it on to their offspring. For example, to track the female lines I would participate in the mtDNA test and then my mtDNA would represent the mtDNA of the following people in my line, plus all of their sisters and their female children:- Darlene Burns
- Mildred Harris
- Bertha Elkins
- Mary Jane Beard
- Mary Bradford
- Jane Beard born 1811
- Mary Blackstock born October 1771
