Navigation Tips For This Site
When a website is first visited, it is sometimes difficult to determine how to move from page to page. That problem is compounded when a site grows pass the point of just a few pages. To assist any visitor to this website to be able to comfortably move from page to page, or part to part, the following tip list may provide some helpful hints.
USING YOUR BROWSER TO NAVIGATE
1. When you first arrive at the opening page to Ancestral Footsteps In the Sands of Time, bookmark (make it a favorite) that page. When completely lost in the depths of this site, you could always find your way back to the "start" page with a few clicks of your mouse.
2. You can always find it useful to use the "BACK" and the "FORWARD" buttons located in the top of your browser window. If you "right-click" your mouse on either of these two browser buttons, you can access a list of all the most recent pages that you have visited. Left-clicking any specific item in that list returns you to that particular page.
WEBSITE NAVIGATION TIPS
3. The primary means of navigating from the opening page to the various major divisions of this website is best done from the drop-down list provided in the top part of the homepage. In some cases, you will not be able to see that navigation list unless you return to the website's homepage.
4. Most of the graphics (text icons) can be clicked to bring up information suggested by the text of that graphic. Underlined text usually means that it can be clicked to bring up a relevant page. These graphic and/or text hyperlinks are scattered throughout the website. In some instances, you may need to use the browser scroll bar located to the right of the window to adjust the placement of text desired.
5. There are currently four color-coded backgrounds that suggest where you are: (a) a white background is used for pages for the major categories. These major category pages are the ones listed in the drop-down list described in tip #3; (b) a light-sand background is used for pages that show information about family generations and family citation-pages.; (c) a darker brown background is used for pages that list additional facts about family members; and (d) a speckled white background is used for pages that list family documents.
6. Where there are many pages devoted to the same type of information, those pages have a "breadcrumb trail" located at the top of each page that shows you where you currently are in relation to other pages in that same group of pages.
7. A site map can be accessed from the top frame that gives you an alphabetized overview of this website. This site map will have "links" that you will be able to click in order to move directly to a specific page or portal page.
8. Family photo pages can be navigated in two ways (or a combination of both!): use the index page of any particular family photo album to view an enlarged view of any photo; or (2) when on an individual photo page, use the "BACK" or "NEXT" links to move through the pages of the individual photos. The advantage of each photo index page is that all photo thumbnails display an alternate text message when you slowly pass your cursor arrow over a thumbnail.
