Transcriptions for ELIZABETH H. KEATING:

1920 Federal Census of La Salle County, Illinois

BOATMAN, Elizabeth Sister {see 1A} FW 29 M Illinois Scotland Pennsylvania none ; FARLEY, William Head OF MW 56 M Illinois Ireland Ireland Farmer Gen. Farm ; Mary E. Wife FW 64 M 1870 Na 1895 Ire Ire Ire none ; BOATMAN, Harry Nephew MW 8 S Arkansas Illinois Illinois none ; Helen Neice FW 6 S ILL ILL ILL none

PERSONAL OBSERVATION: at this time [10/05/2001] it is NOT known what the relationship was between Elizabeth nee KEATING Boatman and the Farley's.

That this record is about her seems clear from the exact matching of age, parental nativity and offspring for Elizabeth nee KEATING Boatman and the Elizabeth Boatman in the census record. Elizabeth Keating was the mother of Harry and Helen Boatman, though other records have both children aged 11 and 8 in 1920.

What is even more inexplicable is the absence of Harry Boatman Sr., husband of Elizabeth Keating, and two of their children who were known to have been born before the census of 1920.

In addition, the record suggests that Elizabeth was a sister to "Mary E." who was 64 years of age, but no other information exists that shows that Elizabeth had a sister named "Mary E.". Elizabeth nee KEATING Boatman DID HAVE a sister-in-law by the name of Mary E. nee STRINGER Keating, but she was only 37 years of age in 1920. However, Elizabeth was a sister to Margaret nee KEATING Dunn whose family members are listed on the census page that precedes the one that is cited above [the enumerator made a notation to "see 1 A"]. And Margaret Dunn was the enumerator for the township, so it is likely that Margaret was merely indicating in the record that her sister, Elizabeth, was living nearby in a different part of Brookfield Township.

The conclusion is that there was no relationship between Elizabeth nee KEATING Boatman and the Falrley's mentioned near her name in the census record of 1920. It was a matter of apparent sloppy recording of information by the enumerator. BUT WHERE WERE ELIZABETH's HUSBAND AND OTHER CHILDREN IN 1920??
