Personal Observation: descendent tree once produced by Warren Brooks indicates that Stephen Brooks may have had a second wife by the name of Ella Brooks. Though this census record indicates birth dates that do not coincide with those dates indicated by other sources, there is general agreement about birth locations. In addition, the Lora of this census record had a brother by the name of David [sic] Graig. Other sources indicate that the name of Stephan [Stephen] Brooks' wife was Laura Ett Craig.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION: There is a William Alberts working as a farm laborer for Nelson Willey and family. This individual was aged 21 and still single. He had been born in Illinois to a father who was a Baden (Germany) native and a mother who was a native of Pennsylvania. The farm of Nelson Willey was in the same township (Deer Park) as the farm of Jacob Alberts, the father of a William, possibly the same living eslewhere as a hired hand. In the 1900 census of District 45, Eagle Township, La Salle County, Illinois, there is a William Alberts [aged 43, born in Illinois to parents from Germany, and single] boarding with another family.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION: The age of the Nellie Alberts of the 1870 census was related by Dr. Bruno to be two months old. The HATTIE listed above has an age of 10. The names may be for the SAME person, but simply mis-read by transcribers of the two census records.

Email Attachment to Message from Dolores Wediknecht-Young, February 5, 2001

Personal observation: The attached descendents report for Jacob W. Alberts lists seven children for Jacob and Oldine Alberts. The third eldest child is stated "HEALTIS ALBERTS, b. How possible is it that the Nellie K. listed in the 1870 Census of LaSalle County and the Hattie listed in the 1880 Census of LaSalle County is the same person as the HEALTIS listed in the report sent from Dolores?

Page unknown: Headline - LOWELL FARMER FOUND DEAD HANGING FROM BARN RAFTER

Complete transcription

Andrew J. Lock, aged 55, was found hanging in the barn on his farm near Lowell this morning. Lock was married and the father of several children. He disappeared from home early today and when the members of his family went out to search for him they found his lifeless body dangling from the rafters in the barn.

Relatives were unable to account for his action, unless he was suffering from some physical trouble of which he had not informed them. They believe he took his life while despondant over his physical condition.

Surviving he leaves his widow and the following children: Orlando, Minnie, [Arthur] Augustus, Lillie , Milo, Mabel, Sylvia, Mildred and Leonard.

The funeral arrangements will be made later.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION:This article FAILS TO MENTION the survival of a son by the name of ROLAND who did not die until after 1968. The wife and child of Andrew Jackson Lock's son, Orlando, had both died in the very near past, between 1919 and 1920. This may have contributed to a decline in the health of this individual.

Subject: Re: Marriage documents for John Applebee

There is a story that has come down through the family. Dennis parents and a sister went to see John and Edna in Grand Ridge. They went to the door and knocked but no one answered and they could see people in the house. It took almost an hour for someone to answer and John came from behind the barn. It was thought that he ran moonshine and he was afraid that Dennis' parents and sister were Revenue people and that is why they wouldn't answer the door.

PERSONAL OBSERVATION: while the first names and birth times of the members of this family agree with other family records, there are two major discrepencies: (1) the surname of Catherine's husband is elsewhere stated as SCHOOK; and (2) the birth land of Catherine's and Anna Applebee's mother shows a conflict, one which is illegible and the other which records ILLINOIS - but their mother was Margaret Pfalzgraf Applebee, who is elsewhere recorded as having been born in Bunn, Empire of Germany. The marriage years indicated in the census suggest that the couple were married about 1892; the marriage license for Henry Schook and Katie Applebee is dated August 23, 1893 (note that the two children of the couple above were born after 1893)
