Letter written by Linda [Grace] Chinn with memories of her husband; extracts as follows:
Cyril died July 21, 1979 after six years of gradually getting worse after a stroke. He was a wonderful good looking man of 6ft 2" and a wonderful nature. Many people wrote after his death and most used the same phrase "He was a gentle man an so honourable". That is the character of all the Chinn family. I married Cyril when I was 19 and he was 29. We were ideal for each other. I am by nature vivacious and he was calm. We both had itchy feet and even fistly to tram all the Dirlyshire & Cumbrian hills. Later we took to cycling and camping and toured all over Europe and even cycled across the Sahara desert from Algiers to Biskson. Thank god I've got my memories of those happly days..............
...... Cyril had a varied career in the Civil Service and was awarded the Imperial Service Order. Most people don't realise what an important order this is. Far better than the O.B.E. It is limited to 1750 members.............
........ He was an intellectual. Interested in music, languages, archeology. He believed in a universal language and we both learned to speak Esperanto. When we married we both decided that we didn't want to bring children into this present world. Perhaps it was a mistake, because we could do with a few more of the Chinn caliber.

Linda A. Grace
