Frank Chinn [Parents] 1 was born 2, 3 on 23 Jan 1863 in Milton Abbas, Dorset, UK. He died 4 on 2 Nov 1948 in Croydon, London, UK. He married Eliza Ann Humberstone. Frank was employed as Police Inspector in London, England.
Recorded in the 1871 Census of Milton Abbas as Frank of Milton Abbas, residing in Bagber Cottage, aged 8 grandson of Samuel Chinn. It is presumed that after the death of his mother in 1863, his father George was incapable of caring for the children on his own and that Frank was raised by other family members firstly by his grandparents. Frank would have moved to London sometime around 1880.
Frank Chinn was later raised to some extent by his uncle, Francis (Frank) (1849-1902). His cousin, Percy John (1893-1968), Francis' son, came to refer to his cousin as uncle Frank. Frank, as a young man, was described as being 5'10½" in height with brown hair and eyes, and a fresh complexion.
Like his uncle Francis, he also served with the London Metropolitan Police Force serving as a constable on 'A' Division until September 1881, on 'Y' Division until April 1884 and subsequently on 'N' Division until February of 1888. He was promoted in 1888 to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred to the 'R' Division where he served until 1894. He was then again promoted to the rank of Station Police Sergeant and served with 'X' Division until June 26, 1895 when he attained the rank of Inspector.
As an Inspector he served on 'M' Division until August of 1896 and then on 'G' Division until December of 1899, and finally on 'W' Division (Clapham) where he remained until his retirement in on February 22, 1909.
At the time of his retirement he had been residing at the Croydon Police Station, but upon being pensioned he moved to 98 Avondale Road in South Croydon where he resided until his death in 1948.
His daughter Gertrude Ethel was the executor and sole beneficiary of his estate.Frank Chinn would have been eligible for the Victoria Jubilee medal of 1887, the bar in 1897 and the Edward VII Coronation medal of 1902.
The estate of Frank Chinn was probated on November 29, 1948, confirmed his date of death as being November 2, 1948 and Gertrude Ethel Chinn, his daughter, was named as sole Executrix.
