George was recorded in the 1851 census of Hinton St. Mary (folio 219.1) as aged 65, born in Hinton St. Mary.
George would have left Hinton St. Mary after June 1860, after his wife Sarah had died, to live with Emmanuel and his family. It was recorded in the 1861 Census of Charlton Marshall that George of Hinton St. Mary, a thatcher, was residing with his son Emmanuel in the Bake House and Grocer Shop on High Street, a widower aged 75.
At the time of his death George was residing at the Union Workhouse in Sturminster. He contracted influenza which was the cause of his death as certified by the Master of the workhouse, G.W. Wood, on March 2, 1870.
