Born in Newtown, John's parents moved to Kiama. It was while visiting his parents that John met Jessie Dyer. John worked in the Bombo Quarries as a Clerk, but after the war, Jessie Dyers brother was given the job and John ended up doing manual labour. John worked for 44 years at the Quarry. He was Secretary of the P and C and President of Kiama Cricket Club. John and Jessie moved from north Kiama to Minnamurra st., opposite the Kiama Public School, where they lived in a shed behind his Fathers Log cabin. They then moved to 55 Barney St., where his son Jack lived for most of his life. Jessie worked as a domestic for Jack King, a dentist at Kiama.
They had nine (9) children.
Jessie Gordon Dyer 1 was born 2 in 1894. She died 3 in 1967 in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. She married John Charles Cambrell in 1911.
