2 December 1789 - Michael Bletchly, Surgeon, admitted to freedom of Bristol, for that he is the son of John Bletchly, linen draper. Michael Bletchly was probably a gentleman of means.

Documents found at the Gloucester Public Record Office (July 1994) show property dealings as follows:
1806 - Wotton-Under-Edge PRO Ref: D2957 P/1188 251(22) Dated the first day of March 1806 - a large parchment document the front page of which reads as follows:
Mr Thomas RICE and his mother Mrs. Jane RICE MORTGAGE (by demise for 1,000 years) to of a Messuage at Rodborough, County of Gloucester, and two Messuages at Elcombe Mr. Michael BLETCHLY in Bisley in the same county.

1812 - Wotton-Under-Edge PRO Ref: D2957 P/1189 251(23) Dated the fourth day of December 1812 INDENTURE a very large 6+ page parchment document the beginning of which reads as follows:
This indenture of six parts made the fourth day of December in the fiftythird year of the reign of our Lord George the Third by the grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King defender of the faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twelve between Michael BLETCHLY of Wotton-Under-Edge in the County of Gloucester, Gentleman of the first part, James WATKINS now or late of Stroud in the County of Gloucester, and Job BROWN of Nailsworth in the said County of Gloucester, Clothier, etc.etc.....

1812 - Wotton-Under-Edge PRO Ref: D2957 P/1189 251(24) Dated 5 December 1812 - again, a very large parchment document the front of which reads:
Mr William Bury WELLS DECLARATION OF TRUST as to certain to Messuages etc. in the parishes of Rodborough and Bisley, County of Gloucester. Mr. Michael BLETCHLY

Question: Did Michael re-marry after the death of his first wife Sarah. The records for St.Mary Bow, London, show that Banns of marriage were called for Michael Bletchly to Sarah Bullen in 1827, but no actual marriage entry can be found.

The death certificate of Michael BLETCHLY, shows he died in the parlour of The Kings Head, a public house in Upper Street, Islington, London. An inquest was carried out by Thomas Wakley, Coroner,and a report is to be found in The Times newspaper.

I give and bequeth to my brother John BLETCHLY of Buckover Farm in the Parish of Thornbury in the County of Gloucester every sort of property I am posessed of or maybe at the time of my decease, and appoint him my sole Executor of this my Will,as witness my hand this 23 day of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred & forty seven - SARAH

deceased, I WILLIAM OLIVER of Bridgwater in the County of Somerset, Carrier, make oath that I am one of the subscribed witnesses to the Last Will and Testament of the said SARAH NEWSON BLETCHLY formerley of No.3 Cornwallis Place, Baptist Mills in the Parish of Saint Philip & Jacob in the County of Gloucester, and late of No.6 Wilson Street, Saint Paul in the City of Bristol, spinster, deceased the said Will being now hereunto annexed bearing date the Twenty third day of December one thousand eight hundred and forty seven and that the said
Testatrix executor the said Will on the day of the date thereof by signing her name at the foot or end thereof as the same now appears thereon in the presenceof me and of THOMAS CLARE the other subscribed witness there to both of us being present at the same time, and we thereupon attested and subscribed the said Will in the presence of the said Testratix - WILLIAM OLIVER - Sworn at the City of Bristol on the eleventh day of November 1858 before me CHARLES S CLARKE, District Registrar.

On Eighteenth day of November 1858, the Will of SARAH NEWSON BLETCHLY, formerly of No.3 Cornwallis Place, Baptist Mills in the parish of Saint Philip and Jacob in the County of Gloucester, and late of No.6 Wilson Street, Saint Paul in the City of Bristol, Spinster, deceased, who died on the Twelfth day of August 1857 at No.6 Wilson Street aforesaid, having a fixed place of abode at the same place, was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty's Court of Probate at Bristol by the oath of JOHN BLETCHLY of Buckover Farm in the Parish of Thornbury in the said County of Gloucester, Farmer, Brother of the deceased, the sole Executor therein named he having been first sworn duly to administer.Effects under £207, no Leaseholds.

COPY OF THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN BLETCHLY (1803-1871)
This is the Last Will and Testament of me JOHN BLETCHLY of the Parish of Alveston in the County of Gloucester, Gentleman. I appoint
my niece ANN ELIZA BENNETT sole Executrix of this my Will. I direct that all my personal and testamentary expenses and all my just debts including the sum of £300 or thereabouts which I hold belonging to the estate of my late brother shall be duly paid out. I charge all my realand personal estate in with the payment thereof and direct my Executrix to invest the sum of two hundred pounds free of legary duty in the purchase of a government annuity on the life of my servant SARAH DOWNS which is too be for her benefit and all the residue of my Estate both real and personal I give devise and bequeth unto my niece the said ANN ELIZA BENNETT for her own absolute use and benefit, but I hereby release and discharge my nephew *JOHN BLETCHLY and my sister ELIZABETH BENNETT from all monies they may respectively now owe to me As witness my hand this fifth day of June one thousand eight hundred and seventy one - JNO BLETCHLY - Signed by the JOHN BLETCHLY the testator as his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in his presence and that of each other have hereby subscribed our names as witnesses - George Crossman - Emma Bell.
