Samuel Chinn [Parents] was born on 29 Mar 1829. He married Mary. Samuel was baptized on 29 Mar 1829 in Hinton St. Mary, Dorset, UK. He was of the Anglican faith.
Recorded in the 1841 Census of Hinton St. Mary as Samuel aged 12 son of Amos and Elizabeth Chin. Recorded in the 1851 census of Hinton St. Mary (folio 221.5) as aged 25, born in Hinton St. Mary. This would disagree with the 1841 census, suggesting he was born cir 1826 but definitely before his baptism 29 Mar 1829.
The 1861 Marnhull census for Bataley indicates a Samuel Chinn, unmarried, aged 36, Baker journeyman born at Hinton St. Mary as being a visitor to Mary Lewis (formerly a schoolmistress). This entry requires verification but may suggest that Samuel's wife (Mary) may have been deceased or have separated from him by that time, or that he and Mary had never married and they were now residing in her parish of Marnhull.
Within the Marn'll Book on page 11, a Samuel Chinn is mentioned as residing at Batt Alley, Marnhull as being one of the various old people of the village who taught the three R's to labourer's children at the rate of a penny per week. This would have been prior to 1871.
Mary was born in 1828 in Marnhull, Dorset, UK. She married Samuel Chinn.

At the time of his wedding James is referred to as being from Gillingham.
The lineage of the Wiltshire Chinn's is traced to James Chinn, third son of Amos Chinn of Hinton St. Mary. James, baptised in Hinton St. Mary on 29 Oct 1727, left the parish and appears to be the same individual residing at Gillingham, Dorset by 1757. He had at least four sons and two daughters. Possibility of another son requires verification based on record (Noted by Daphane A. Hills) of a Gillingham burial 20 May 1789 - Amos son of James Chin.
It is presumed that James Chinn may have died before 1785 as on his daughter Sarah's burial (on 11 May 1785) she is referred to as the daughter of Widow Chinn.
