Catherine (Reese) Appold.
1. Emma Augusta, born 1857, died 1857;
2. Anna Virginia, born 1858, died 1859;
3. Mary Catherine, born 1860, died 1869;
4. Harriet Sykes, born 1863, married Dec. 12, 1891,
to Lewis J. Lederer, resides 106 University Park-
way, West, Baltimore, Md., and Smithsburg, Md.;
5. Samuel Elder, born 1865, died 1865;
2. Jacob Fehl Lantz, born July 27, 1833. Came into the
business of Samuel Elder & Co., with his brother upon
the death of Mr. Elder. Prior to that time he was in
business in Lancaster, first as a partner of Barton
Martin and second with Jonas Martin. Oct 11, 1860,
he married Miss Emily Emerson, daughter of James
and Annie (Weir) Emerson of New York. He died
Aug. 26, 1891 in Baltimore;
1. Emily Emerson Lantz, born in Lancaster, Pa.,
Dec. 18, 1862. Attended Augusta Female Semi@
Of Staunton, Va. In 1894, began her journalistic
career on the Evening News. Went to the Herald
and in 1901 became a member of the Sun Staff
with which paper she has since been identified. Her
work covered reporting, genealogy, special stories,
'historical research articles, fashion essays and
dramatic criticism. She is an honorary member of
the Woman's Literary Club of Baltimore, through
the Lend a Hand Club (the first woman's club
organized in Maryland) and is affiliated with the
Maryland Federation of Woman's Clubs, National
Council of Women and the International Council
of Women. She is a member of the Presbyterian
Church. Her latest work has been a History of
the twenty-three counties of Maryland published
in the Sun.
