LANTZ GENEALOGY

     sons and two daughters, Peter Lantz, four sons and five
     daughters, Benjamin Lantz, one son and three daughters,
     Albert Lantz, two sons and two daughters, which is very
     good evidence of a permanent settlement there.
          The fifth settlement was made in Preston County, West
     Virginia, before the year 1800.
          The sixth settlement was made in Upshire County, in
     the year of 1811, by George Lantz, from Pendleton County,
     Virginia, now West Virginia.  He was on his way to the
     great west and stopped at Philadelphia and was advised by
     one Mr. Thompson to settle on Big Run near the town of
     Buckhanon, which he did.
          The seventh. settlement was made at Blackesvill (and
     by the way it might be the sixth, I am not sure about this).
     John Lantz was born there in 1814 and in the year 1826
     Alexander Lantz purchased land in that community.
          The Philadelphia records show that from the year of
     1710 to 1766 there came to this country the following per-
     sons by the name Lantz. (See page 45) Johannes Lantz in
     1710.  Jacob Lantz, Michel Lantz, Hans Peter Lantz, Hans
     Nicolous Lantz, age under 16 and Johannes Lantz under 16
     in 1738, Jacob Lantz in 1739, Hans George Lantz in 1747,
     Nicolous Lantz same year, Johannes Lantz in 1748, Hans
     Lantz in 1749, Andreos Lantz in 1751.  Asaph Lantz in 1752,
     Philip Lantz and Belam Lantz in 1755, Martin Lantz in 1766.
          The United States census of 1790 shows the following
     families and their size at that time.
          Frederick County, Maryland: John Lantz, males 1, fe-
     males 4. George Lantz, males 1, females 0.
          South Carolina: Albert Lance, males 4, females 2. Al-
     bert Lance, males 5, females 4.
          North Carolina: Benjamin Lance, males 1, females 4.
     Boston Lance, males 4, females 4. Boston Lance, Jr., males
     1, females 2. David Lance, males 3, females 2. John Lance,
     males 4, females 3. Peter Lance, males 1, females 3. Peter
     Lance, males 2, females 1. Linum Lance, males 1.
          Pennsylvania: Baltzer Lantz, males 2. Christ Lantz,
     males 6, females 3. John Lantz, males 1, females 1. Christo-
     pher Lance, males 1. Abraham Lance, males 2, females 2.
