Mower Family Main Page
This page is devoted to the Mower Family Tree. At this point in time, I have relatively concrete information tracing the Mower family back to a Henry Mower, born sometime in the late 1700's. Henry (or Hendrick) was married to Elizabeth Conyne. I've also seen his wife listed as Elizabeth Frederick. I have come across several family trees on the internet that list Henry's father as Peter, and Peter's father as Unknown. These trees list Peter Mower's father as having been born circa 1700 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. However, I have been unable to locate sources for this information, and am currently working on verifying information on Hendrick Mower.
It appears as if the Henry Mower and Elizabeth Conyne lived in the town of Mohawk in Montomery county at least for some time. There are baptismal records for their son Conrad (b. 10/27/1791), in the Dutch Reformed Church of Caughnawaga. These can be quite confusing, however. It appears that there were 2 Conrads born in 1791, for the same church has baptism records for a Conrad (Coenraat) Mower born to a George Mower and Mary Oathout Mower on 6/24/1791.
Conrad Mower and Mary (Polly) Klock had a number of children. (View Mower Family Tree). I am descended from their son Simon (son Willard Clayton, son Glen, son Philip, me...). To view the online version of the tree at Rootsweb World Connect, click here.
I have collected a few individual Mower family biographies. I would welcome any additional submissions. I have also collected some photos of Mowers including and descended from Willard Clayton Mower. The In Memorium Section commemorates Mowers who have passed away.
If you have any information to add, please e-mail me.
In my recent research, the Herkimer County geneological sites have been invaluable. Through the Rootsweb cemetary transcription project, I learned that a number of relatives are buried in the Miller Dutchtown cemetary in Schuyler, NY. Additionally, the Herkimer County GenWeb site has been very useful, as has the Herkimer County Historical Society .
