* In the 1850 cencus for Washington County, Arkansas denotes the following: NAME, AGE, PL.ACE OF BIRTH CARMEL GIBSON, 62 (1788) ,TN MARY GIBSON ,40 (1810) ,KY THOMAS GIBSON, 24 (1826) ,KY JOHN GIBSON, 22 (1828), IA SAMUEL GIBSON, 18 (1832) ,IA SARAH GIBSON, 17 (1833), IA
* The family, at that time was living in COVE CREEK Township. My Gr. Gr. Grandfather was Samuel, the younger brother of John. * I found that the three brothers, Thomas, John, and Samuel mustered into the Confederate Army in 1862 at Conway, Arkansas. They were attached to the 27th Arkansas Infantry and remained there until the end of the Civil War. *My Gr. Gr. Grandfather married Mary Jane Wooten who also lived in Cove Creek. They Later moved to California where they are now buried in the Sentinel Cemetery in Clovis, Fresno County, California. I have not, at this point, been able to trace Carmel and Mary through their home states.

John died in his forties from a shooting accident while hunting. John served in the Civil war along with his two brothers. I have the original Amnesty Oath signed by John which contains his physical description. Source: Brenda Leatherman
John married Sarah Adkins, daughter of Owen Adkins and Elizabeth COX, on Feb 25, 1855 in Cove Creek, Washington, Arkansas. (Sarah Adkins was born on Dec 7, 1838 in Missouri and died on Nov 22, 1877.)
