Hanson Family History
According to family lore, my Hanson family
started out as the Johannsen [or variant spelling] family. This has
not been confirmed by me though.
The earliest Hanson I have found is
George
Hanson born about 1730 possibly in Ireland. I have no wife listed
for him, but I have 8 children. This info was given to me by a
distant relative, and where she got it, is unknown.
The Hansons were devout Quakers while in
America. My earliest confirmed Hanson would be George's son
Elijah
born 4 February 1749/50 and died 3 February 1802 in North Carolina.
He was married to Susanna Scruvine on 13 November 1779.
I have found most of my Hanson line in the
Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy. The family moved from
North Carolina to Ohio, then finally residing in Indiana.
There are a lot of gaps in my line, missing
dates, spousal last names, etc. One mystery I would like to solve
is who my second great grandfather married after his first wife, Viola
Healton/Helton, died. Viola is my second great grandmother, but who
was the mother to Joseph's other children?
