I've been doing internet genealogy since I was 12. Things have come a long way since the RSL was posted to Prodigy bulletin boards. This is by no means a comprehensive list of useful things I've found, but it's at least some acknowledgement of places I've found to be helpful.

US GenWeb Geographically based resources. Best bets are the State/County pages and the archives search. You can also go directly to a county page:

ANCESTRY.COM The World Tree was free, but is now part of WorldConnect (see below). A membership buys access to their extensive databases as well.
FAMILY SEARCH LDS and its IGI, ancestral file and 1880 census are online. N
