Don & Rena
for
A VERY SUCCESSFUL REUNION!!
This year our group of family historians, genealogists and cousins from all over the U.S.A.
met in Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia during the weekend of Jun 9-11, for the
Year 2000 AMASON * AMERSON HOMECOMING and HERITAGE QUEST!
2000 A*A H & HQ Attendees
Our Year 2000 group included many who attended last year's A*A H&HQ in North Carolina
and many new "cousins" joined our group for the first time.
There were AMASON descendants and AMERSON descendants attending, from as near as
Washington and Athens, Georgia, to as far away as Albion, Michigan and Kingsland, Texas.
Our group included AMASON and AMERSON families from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia,
Michigan, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and Texas!
On Friday evening 27 attendees of the second
AMASON * AMERSON HOMECOMING and HERITAGE QUEST
met at the VFW Hall in Washington, Georgia for a buffet style dinner.
On Saturday morning, at the VFW Hall, Williemay Amason Cheek
opened our Heritage Quest day with a her observations on "Relationships".
Williemay has researched her Amason family for 40+ years and this was her second A*A H&HQ.
We hope Williemay will continue this tradition at our next A*A H& HQ scheduled for
the second Saturday in June, 2002 in Athens, Alabama!
"Thank you's", comments, questions etc. can be sent to Williemay Amason Cheek at
1220 Jackson Street, Albion, MI 49224 or via e-mail to wcheek@cablespeed.com
Williemay
! ! THANK YOU WILLIEMAY ! !
Robert M. "Skeet" Willingham, a local Wilkes County, Georgia historian and author,
spoke to our group about why our ancestors migrated and included history of the local area.
He answered many of our questions.
The Wilkes County, Georgia family settled on the Amason spelling.
They are descendants of Manoah Amason (b. 1772; d. c. 1818 in Edgecombe Co. NC)
and wife, Jerusha Moore (b. 1774; d. c. 1841 in Edgecombe Co. NC) via their son,
Edward Amason (b. 1794 in Edgecombe Co. NC; d. 1843 in Wilkes Co. GA) and wife,
Jemima Bolton (b. 1807 in Wilkes Co. GA; d. 1871 in Wilkes Co. GA).
We believe Skeet must certainly have Amason blood running in those veins,
although he claims he hasn't discovered any Amason ancestors yet.
"Thank you's", comments, questions etc. can be sent to Skeet Willingham at
213 W. Liberty Street, Washington, GA 30673 or via e-mail to skeet@nu-z.net

! ! THANK YOU SKEET ! !
On Sunday morning, June 11, we began our car caravan tour of Amason
cemeteries and homesites in Wilkes County, Georgia.
We visited the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery near Rayle, Georgia
and the Clark's Station Baptist Church Cemetery.
2000 A*A H&HQ at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery
Along the way we passed the homesite of
Manoah Bolton Amason (b. 1836; d. 1895 in Wilkes Co. GA).
Former homesite of Manoah Bolton Amason
Don't feel bad, we couldn't see anything either!!
2000 A*A H&HQ at Clark Station Baptist Church Cemetery
When the tour ended on Sunday, we all said our Goodbye's until the next
