Suggs(s), Grey: b. abt 1800 Wake Co. NC d.between
1845-1850 Monroe Co.MS m. ?Millie? b. NC or GA ? d. about 1849 Lowndes /Monroe
Co.MS
My Line: GREY>WILLIAM>GEORGE>WILLIAM>ELSIE
Counties: Grey in Monroe Co in 1840 Federal Census, and in several
State census' after that, but had disappeared by 1850.
Research questions/additional information: Grey Sugg was in Pike
County, GA as late as 1834 before coming to Monroe Co. The name "Millie" for
his wife is a guess - there was a Millie Sugg that died about 1849 in Lowndes
County and left nine children. Some of the children were of marrying age, and
did, and most of the younger children were raised by the older ones, at least,
that is the way it looks on the 1850 census. The children's names and their
spouses are: Sidney SUGG m. Henderson BENEFIELD 1850 Lowndes Co.,Joel SUGG m.
Sarah Ann WAIT 1849 Lowndes Co., Ellen SUGG m. Charles D. THOMPSON 1849 Lowndes
Co, Jane SUGG, Quilla SUGG m. Sarah Ann STEVENS 1855 Lowndes Co., Martha SUGG,
William SUGG m. Mary T. SMITH 1858 Lowndes Co., Hubbard SUGG m. Elizabeth
BOSWELL 1865 Lowndes Co., Warren SUGG m. Jane WALLACE 1864 Lowndes Co., MS.
I am trying to find proof that "Millie" was indeed Grey's wife, and where the
two of them are buried. Also trying to locate burial place for William Sugg(s)
and his wife, Mary T. Smith Suggs. William died in 1879, probably in Aberdeen.
That is where I found his widow in the 1880 census. Of interest also is burial
place for George Suggs' first wife, Mary Jane Crump. I believe she died in
October of 1895 from complications of child birth. This could have been in
Lowndes County, or in Monroe County. I suspect Lowndes County, since he married
again in Lowndes County, just weeks after the death of his first wife.
