(*I believe this John to be the father of Great-grandfather Abraham. Abraham would have been 18 at this time, but his age was wrong in more than one census, so the fact that there is no 18 yr. old does not convince me that I'm wrong. I wonder if this is the John who married Rachel Lee in Rutherford Co., NC in 1805. My reason for this theory is that in 1842, there was a land grant in Polk Co. for Rachel York, and John York no longer appears in the census, so Rachel could have been his widow. (Eliza J.'s maiden name was Mathis. Abraham's age is wrong here. He was 28. According to court records in Monroe Co., TN, Abraham's wife's name was Mary Jane, not Eliza J. "James Mason died Jul 1867 Monroe Co.; widow Hepsaby, and children: . . . 8. Hulda Mathis, dec'd whose children are:. . . c. Mary Jane York dec'd whose children are Wm. C. and Emeline York, minors of Bradley Co." TN Mortality Schedule of 1860 lists the death of Jane York, 33, who died of consumption in March. I think this was probably have been Abraham's wife. She is said to be buried in Cookson Creek Cemetery in Polk Co., TN. I did not find a marker for her, but there are many unmarked.If this death is the correct one, he did not wait long before remarrying. He married Mary Ann London in June of 1860.)
