Notes:

James H. Blanton lived and died on Blanton Branch in Johnson County, Kentucky. He was handicapped in early life by lack of any opportunity. He had to work and provide for himself, and for a time hired out to the Litterals. When he was seventeen years old, he surveyed and worked on surveying parties for one-hundred acres of land near the present post office of Elna, Kentucky. He also ran out fifty acres, which was later deeded to his oldes son. He followed farming as an occupation, but also served around the county courts as a juryman and on other official matters until he had acquired a fair knowledge of the local laws. He was a large man, weighing over two hundred pounds and was never sick to any extent, until his death. His death was due to the infirmities of age. He was buried at the old graveyard on the Blanton farm.
