Obituary of Mary Jane Simpson Waugh
Mary Jane Simpson, d/o Antipas and harriet Dunaway SImpson was born in Madison Co., IA on Nov 29, 1872 and departed this life June 5, 1931 at age 58 years, 6 mos, 7 days. She was united in marriage to Cary Gilbert Waugh Sep 26, 1900. To this union 4 children were born. Elza Ayres Waugh of Barney, IA; Veda Rickets of Lorimor; and Harriet who is still at home. The third child George SImpson Waugh died in infancy Jun 29, 1911 (Blue Baby).
Besides her husband and children, Mrs. Waugh leaves to mourn her loss, 3 little grandchildren, Carl and Claire Waugh and Bernard Rickets. Two sisters, Mrs. Frank RHone of Barney and Mrs. George Keys of Billings MO (sic-they were in Billings MT). Five Brothers, Robert of Colona, CO; John of Lorimor; William of Churchville, IA; Elias of Peru; and Thomas of Los Angeles, CA and many relatives and friends.
Mrs. Waugh united with the Church of Christ at Barney in the year 1914 and remained a faithful member until her death. She was a devoted mother, a loving wife, a faithful friend and will be missed in the community where she has spent her entire life. Services were held at Barney Church of Christ at 2pm Tuesday with Rev H.L. Olmstead having charge. Mary and her husband Cary are both buried at Barney Cemetery.

Samuel and Antipas Simpson were born near Elkhart, Elkhart Co., IN. Their father was benjamin Simpson. Benjamin Simpson, with his family, came to Marion Co., IA in 1856. The 2 brothers married sisters, Eliza and Harriet Dunaway, Who came to Marion County in 1850 with their parents. Samuel and Eliza were the parents of 12 children, all living except Noah who died in 1902. Antipas and Harriet were the parents of 12 children. Two died in infancy and George in 1900; Mary in 1931. The brothers came to Madison County after their marriage. They made their home in this county near Barney until their deaths. Samuel's in Dec 1908; Antipas in Jan 1921. They were among the older settlers of this county, Samuel coming here in 1866 and Antipas in 1868.
